The New Reality of Studying in Canada
The rules for studying in Canada have shifted dramatically from funding requirements to work permit eligibility, to who can bring their family, and even who needs new documents like the Provincial Attestation Letter. If you’re planning to study in 2026 or beyond, you can’t rely on outdated information. Here are just a few of the major changes you need to know:
1. Proof of Funds Got a Major Overhaul
Money talks and this is the loudest change. It affects every applicant and immediately signals that the old rules don’t apply.
2. Study Permit Refusal Rates Are Rising
Avoid being part of the refusal statistics.
3. What Officers Look For Keeps Changing
Officers are getting more detailed and critical of applications.
4. Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs) Are Not for Everyone
The rules on who needs PAL changed again.
5. PGWP Rules Have Changed
It’s still one of the top reasons people choose Canada, but the requirements to qualify have shifted. Not every school or program will make you eligible anymore.
6. New Restrictions on Spousal Open Work Permits
This tugs at family decisions a big deal for mature students and married applicants.
7. Pathways to Stay After Graduation Have Evolved
Studying in Canada is a strategic step to staying but Permanent residence is no guaranteed.
8. The IRCC Website Isn’t the Whole Story
The checklist online doesn’t reflect the full expectations of immigration officers. Depending on your case, relying on only the IRCC checklist may not be enough to build a strong, convincing application.

Having used Infoplace Canada for my two sisters Study Permit application, it was no brainer that we were going to use Infoplace for my third sister's application. Infoplace was there at every step of the way from getting school admission for us for free to submitting a study permit application for us. My third sister received a decision in exactly 8 weeks. There are so many great reasons why you should work with Infoplace for all your immigration needs. Infoplace is the best! We cannot thank you enough for the quality and exceptional services you provide. I recommend them 100% and will definitely be returning back for my youngest sibling.

We decided to use InfoPlace Canada for their massive testimonial review seen so far on instagram as well as a friend of mine recommended them. She has used InfoPlace Canada for her application. InfoPlace Canada assisted me with obtaining admission at a DLI and my Study Visa application as well as my Spouse open work permit application. They represented us fully during our Visa applications. InfoPlace Canada is enthusiastic in their work. The kind of professionalism I noticed while working with them is top-notch. I experienced it first-hand, I was able to know more with latest updates. The best thing I love about InfoPlace Canada is their Professionalism and attention to details. They worked hand in hand with me and my husband in every process. They answered every little and big questions 😄

One day, I came across InfoPlace Canada on Instagram. I started following the page and was drawn to the numerous success stories shared. While I initially had some doubts, a part of me still believed that one day I would be able to pursue my dream of studying in Canada. Eventually, I gathered the courage to book an online consultation, which led to me signing up for the Full Representation package. Then, on May 10th, 2025, I received a call informing me that my application had been approved. I was speechless. I had to pause and catch my breath. It was a surreal and emotional moment.
